Volunteer Spotlight
Michelle Johnston

I have been a CASA since my training completion in the spring of 2021. I remember being a child taken from a parent struggling with substance abuse and how confusing things were. I wanted to make a difference and advocate for kids like myself but didn't know how. I was so nervous about working with kids and thought I would be overwhelmed. I was so wrong! I'm working with three kids and I am so excited when it's time to see them. They make me feel like a kid again. I hope more volunteers join us at CASA!! It is so rewarding to grow connections with parents and their kids.

My favorite memory so far was when I asked one of the kids about school. She must have been annoyed with all my questions because she rolled her eyes and said, "Okay, we can stop these questions. Let's just go play now." Kids truly say the funniest things!
